When a new account is created, a number of default product types are set up according to the most common configuration. These product types and their behaviour are as below:
Generally we would not recommend altering the default product types unless necessary.
Each product type has a defined name, specified group behaviour and a list of other product types that it is permitted to contain. For a more detailed description of the product types and behaviours, see the related help pages in the Product Types & Groups section of the Knowledge Base.
To edit an existing product type or to set up a new product type, navigate to Settings > Product Types and either select an existing type or select 'New Product Type'.
This will bring up the edit product type dialog
Within the product type dialog, the user can specify the product type unique name, the behaviour of the group (whether the items in this group behave as components, variants, separates, options or do not have any group behaviour) and whether the product type can contain other product types.
To select the types that can be contained within this product type, use Ctrl/Cmd + click to select all of the item types you wish to add (or alternatively use Ctrl/Cmd + click to deselect these product types if you do not wish to allow any product types to be contained).
