Feature Request: Dark mode UI

I occasionally experience headaches and migraines after extended periods of screen use, and I’ve found that dark-themed interfaces can significantly reduce eye strain and discomfort.

While I really appreciate the clean look of the current "Pimberly blue" colour scheme, it would be incredibly helpful to have the option to reduce the brightness of the interface, whether through a dark mode or adjustable themes.

This feature would not only support user comfort and accessibility but could also contribute to overall health and wellbeing for those who spend long hours working on the platform.

  • If you are comfortable with web coding, specifically style sheets (CSS), with a little time investment you can make your own dark mode interface. You have to use a browser extension named Stylus. I have been using it for years and love it! This is not a solution for everyone. But if applicable to you, it could be a stopgap means to help out if/until Pimberly can create a way to customize the interface.

You can override the page styles on a website to your liking. For example, I use the Bing search engine. I want a clear and obvious way to see what sites I visited. So, using the Developer Tools I found the style they use to set the visited color. Then in Stylus for the bing.com domain, I made it red. You can turn on/off styling for a page at any time.

This DOES NOT change the actual code on a website!! It is only for your session on your browser! Many times I had people worried when I was making live changes to a website while doing development work. A nice little scare, if you will!

Note for doing this. Since it is YOUR view of the site, you can't call Pimberly support for help! You are on your own. Again, if anything does not look right, you can always turn Stylus off for this site and use the default page.

While not fully done, I have a quick sample of what you can do to make a dark mode. Again, since you are adjusting the style code on YOUR browser, you can set whatever colors or stylings you like.

  • I have people on my team who need to use Pimberly with third party browser extensions for this reason, so adding it as native functionality would be good.

  • Thank you both very much, I have heard about "Stylus", we'd prefer to wait and see if the Pimberly Dev team can make it a formal feature.

  • Understood. That would probably take a while. Why I suggested that extension in the meantime. Hope they can develop a dark mode option for you and those would enjoy it.
