Export Current Grid View to Excel lets you send the products and columns you see in the Product Grid straight to an xlsx file in one click. It removes the manual attribute-mapping step from routine exports, so you get a file that matches the view you built.
This guide explains what Export Current Grid View to Excel does, how to set it up, and how to use it effectively.
What Is Export Current Grid View to Excel?
Export Current Grid View to Excel is an export option in the Product Grid that exports only the attributes shown, in the order the grid shows them, to a native Excel (xlsx) file. This is especially useful when:
- You regularly export the same filtered or saved view and don't want to re-map attributes each time.
- You need the exported columns in the same order as your on-screen view.
- You want to share a clean subset of product data with colleagues or third parties.
- You want product thumbnails to appear in the exported file.
Instead of mapping every attribute by hand on the Export Product Data screen, Pimberly now exports your current view in one step.
How It Works
- Build the view you want in the Product Grid using facets, categories, or a simple or complex search (saved searches work too).
- Select Export from the Product Grid navigation bar and choose your products.
- Turn on the Export Current View to xlsx toggle and select Next.
- Pimberly generates an xlsx file containing only the attributes shown, in the grid's order.
- Where the Thumbnail column is shown, the image is rendered in-cell using the =IMAGE(url) formula, sized to 100 x 100 pixels, with the row height set to 100 to fit.
- Media set columns export as a list of the underlying asset URLs, not the "assets" count shown in the grid.
Export Current View to xlsx is available for views of up to 10,000 products.
Setting Up Export Current Grid View to Excel
Step 1 — Build your view
- Open the Product Grid.
- Use facets, categories or search to filter to the products you want.
- Add, remove and order the columns so the grid shows exactly the attributes you want to export.
Step 2 — Export the current view
- Select Export from the Product Grid navigation bar.
- Choose whether to export your selected products or all products in the current view.
- Below Filtered Products, turn on the Export Current View to xlsx toggle (off by default).
If you leave the toggle off and select Next, you continue through the existing Export Product Data workflow as before.
- Select Next. Pimberly generates the xlsx file, shown above the Product Grid.
- Once generated, click the link to download the file to your computer.
Step 3 - Review the export
- Open the file in your preferred spreadsheet application.
Using Export Current Grid View to Excel
Once your view is set, exporting is a single action you can repeat whenever you need it:
- The export reflects the grid at the moment you run it, including filters and column order.
- Save the view as a saved search so you, or a colleague, can return to it and export again.
- Open the xlsx in Excel to filter, format or share without further setup.
Best Practices
- Order your columns before exporting — the export uses the on-screen order.
- Save frequently used views as saved searches to avoid rebuilding them.
- Keep the Thumbnail column in the view if you want images to appear in the file.
- Check large exports open as expected before sharing externally.
Troubleshooting
The export is missing columns or the order is wrong
- Confirm the columns are shown in the Product Grid before exporting — only visible attributes are included.
- Reorder the columns in the grid, then run the export again.
Thumbnails are not showing in the file
- Make sure the Thumbnail column is shown in the view before exporting.
- Confirm your spreadsheet application supports the =IMAGE() formula and that image URLs are accessible.
- When you first open the file, thumbnails may not load until you enable content in Excel. If you see =BLOCKED! in thumbnail cells, press CTRL/CMD + SHIFT + H to open the Find & Replace window, enter =IMAGE in both the "Find what" and "Replace with" boxes then click "Replace all" to load the images.
I can't see the Export Current View to xlsx toggle
- Check you are on the Export step, below Filtered Products.
- Check your current view contains 10,000 products or fewer. The option is available for views up to this size.
